aWMist Frequently Asked Questions
1 Organisations in aWMist
1.1 What Kind of Organisations are on aWMist?
aWMist has data about ICT and electronics businesses, about public sector supporting projects and services, about universities and their research groups, and about private sector professional services and training organisations from the West Midlands.
1.2 How Many Organisations are on aWMist?
aWMist holds records on approximately 3,000 organisations.
1.3 How Can I Have my Business Listing Changed?
aWMist is mostly a "self service" platform. Every organisation on the database can have one or more users, with a login name and a password, who can edit all data about that organisation. If your organisation does not yet have an user account with aWMist, click on "register" in the upper right corner to request an account, and indicate to the administrator processing your request which business you belong to.
1.4 How Can Add my Business to aWMist?
To register an user account with aWMist and create a new business record, click on "register" in the upper right corner to request an account, and indicate to the administrator processing your request that you intend to add your business to the database.
2 The Map
2.1 I Have Found an Error/an Omission on the Map
aWMist uses free mapping data from the OpenStreetMap project. Maps are usually updated at least once a week. If your street is not on the map, or if you spot a mistake, simply log on to OpenStreetMap and fix the error - the improved map will usually be on aWMist in less than one week.
3 Editing
3.1 How Can I Change My Business Address?
To edit data yourself, you have to be logged in, and your user account has to be created with edit privileges for the business record. This is done centrally by the aWMist adminstrator (lest everybody could change someone else's business details).
If this is the case, then you will see "Edit" buttons next to every section on the organisation page. The organisation name and address does not have an "Edit" button but an "Edit master data" link which serves the same purpose. Click on the button, make your changes, then click "Save".
3.2 I Changed the Address But the Map Icon Does Not Move!
The location of the icon on the map is not keyed to your address. Instead, the map has an edit button of its own which lets you place the icon anywhere you like. This makes sure that you can put the icon where your business really is - and not where the postal code point is.
3.3 How Can I Add a New Organisation?
Normally, only the aWMist adminstrators can add new organisations, and will do so on request by e-mail.
If your organisation has been created with the option of having sub-organisations - e.g. if you are representing a science park and there are many organisations which are a part of that - then you will also have the option of creating new sub-organisations via the edit page of your organisation.
